Story of us

The story of Penta is the story of Stjepan Steve Zunic, its founder, who fell in love with travel when he won a plane ticket to Budapest for a 4 day trip at the age of 16, where an experienced guide told him various stories of the city, urban legends and curiosities. It was enough to fall in love with travel. His fascination with history, galleries, museums and meeting people grew, powered by his adventurous spirit.

After hitchhiking through whole out Europe during his high school years, Steve landed a job with one of the largest travel agencies in the country, Putnik. He stayed at Putnik through his university years and beyond, for almost 10 years learning from the best and building his professional career.

Steve founded Penta in 1991 out of his garage, handling mostly groups travelling to various professional fairs. Next year Steve got his first employee and bought an office, that Penta outgrew in less than 5 years. Presently Penta employs 22 people with its headquarters in Zagreb, Croatia.

Over the course of his career Steve has participated in many industry associations and has been a member of Meetings Professional International (MPI), Croatian Meeting Professional Association (HUPKT), Association of Croatian Travel Agencies (UHPA), Travel Life, Society for Incentive Travel Excellence (SITE) and Skål International. As Steve likes to stress, he does not work in tourism, he lives tourism. His values of individual approach to clients, taking into consideration their goals and values and delivering reliability and ethics made Penta an obvious choice for many clients Penta holds for decades.

As a pioneer of MICE industry in Croatia, Penta today remains one of the most important and influential companies in meeting industry in Croatia. Despite continuous company growth, Penta remains a family company. In 2017 Steve handed over company leadership to one of his sons, Nikica Žunić, who now is a company CEO. Steve
continues to participate in key strategic company decisions.
